Spacecoin (SPACE) is taking its decentralized satellite internet project to new heights, announcing strategic partnerships on January 15, 2025, aimed at expanding connectivity in Africa and Southeast Asia. The project has secured agreements with governments and telecom entities in these regions, a tangible step in its mission to bridge the digital divide using blockchain and satellite tech.
The expansion is a two-pronged effort. In Kenya, Spacecoin obtained a satellite connection transmission license from the Communications Authority of Kenya, authorizing Internet of Things (IoT) monitoring services. This is the first regulatory green light for deploying broader connectivity solutions. Meanwhile, the project is pursuing Proof-of-Concept (PoC) demonstrations with government bodies and local partners in Cambodia and Indonesia. The goal is to validate the technical and economic viability of its decentralized network in diverse, underserved markets.
Spacecoin's plans rely on its existing space infrastructure. The project aims to complete its initial satellite constellation using three CTC-1 satellites, launched into orbit via a SpaceX rocket in late 2024. This foundational layer allows service demonstrations without the massive capital expenditure of building a full-scale constellation from scratch. The technology positions itself as a decentralized alternative to traditional geostationary satellite internet, potentially offering lower latency and greater resilience. The integration of the SPACE cryptocurrency token is designed to facilitate microtransactions for data services, creating a novel economic model for connectivity.
