Bermuda's STS Digital Gobbles a $30M War Chest to Supercharge Its Crypto Options Arsenal

In a move that’s less of a gentle sip and more of a full-on gulp, Bermuda-based principal trading firm STS Digital has announced a hefty $30 million strategic funding round. The raise was led by CMT Digital and saw participation from Payward—that’s Kraken’s parent company for those keeping score—alongside other backers. The fresh powder is earmarked for scaling its institutional-grade spot and options platform, significantly deepening its market-making muscles, and generally beefing up a balance sheet that’s about to do some heavy lifting.

The firm isn't starting from zero; it already offers institutions a veritable candy store of over 400 tokens. This spans spot trading, vanilla and exotic options, and structured products, all accessible through a unified UI, API, and even a voice interface for the high-rollers who prefer to bark orders. With crypto options open interest chilling around $40 billion (let’s be honest, mostly parked on Deribit), STS is aiming to build a foundational liquidity layer for digital-asset derivatives, because someone has to provide the plumbing for all this degen leverage.

“Institutions are rushing to hedge and generate yield with options,” remarked Gideon Hyams, the firm’s chairman and co-founder, in a statement that probably understates the frantic FOMO. “This funding lets us stay ahead of that explosive demand.” CEO Maxime Seiler chimed in, noting that digital-asset options are the fastest-growing product category and that the new capital will help the firm scale with what we can only assume is a very serious and intense “focus and intent.”

Operating under the watchful eye of the Bermuda Monetary Authority, STS isn't just throwing cash at the problem. Back in August 2024, it acquired Swiss market-maker Flovtec, effectively swallowing its trading infrastructure and algorithms to turbocharge its liquidity solutions. This latest funding round firmly positions STS to cement its role as a key liquidity provider, just as the institutional herd stampedes toward crypto derivatives, wallets blazing.
